Parking

Student Lots

Parking in any student lots, all permit lots, and along streets will require a parking permit.

Faculty/Staff Areas

Parking in the faculty/staff parking areas will require a full faculty/staff parking permit.

Permitted Parking

A variety of NMSU Parking Permits are available for those who wish to park in a designated “permitted” parking lot. Parking rules are enforced Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Free Parking

There are free parking areas available on campus, including the large parking lot #30 east of the Pan American Center. No parking permits are required there, but vehicles on the boot/tow list will still be addressed in free parking lots. Free parking on evenings and weekends.

Enforcement/Meters

Parking permit enforcement is in full effect Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by the NMSU Police Department. Parking citations are administered by the NMSU Police Department. Questions or comments should be directed to parking@nmsu.edu or via phone at 575-646-2133.

Enforcement of fire lanes, disabled parking, blocking roadways, and no parking zones continue to be addressed 24/7.

Tailgating and Parking Rules

LEED/LEV Parking

In conjunction with New Mexico State University’s ongoing sustainable initiatives, recent building projects were designed and built with the goal of obtaining Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, or LEED, certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Part of this certification includes designating a number of parking spaces near the projects as reserved for LEED Qualifying Vehicles.

To park in a space designated “Low Emitting & Fuel Efficient Parking Only,” you must:

  • Own a vehicle that qualifies as a LEED low-emission vehicle
  • Have a current NMSU parking permit color-coded to the particular lot in which you wish to park (unless you park in the 2-hour free lot designated for the NMSU Auxiliary Services Building which also houses the NMSU Parking Dept., NMSU Bookstore, and Panda Express).
  • NOTE: A vehicle occupying a space marked “Low Emitting & Fuel Efficient Parking Only” that is not classified as a LEED low-emission vehicle will be cited for “unauthorized parking,” a $35 offense.

Additional restrictions may apply. Please contact the NMSU Parking Dept. at 575-646-1839, parking@nmsu.edu, or visit our office at 1400 E. University Ave. 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday for more information.

Vehicle Rentals

As of Jan. 30, 2016, NMSU began providing vehicle rentals through a third party. This agreement allows for discounted rental costs and direct billing. The NMSU Transportation Dept. can help your department create an account allowing you direct access to the vehicle rental system. Please contact transport@nmsu.edu to begin.

NMSU Fuel Cards

University departments are advised to establish a Wright Express fuel credit card account by contacting Transportation & Parking Services at transport@nmsu.edu. This account can be used at most off-campus fueling stations.

We do not recommend the storage of flammable or combustible liquids for refueling of your small utility service vehicle or equipment. Only approved containers and portable tanks may be used to store flammable and combustible liquids. Maximum allowable sizes of various types of containers and portable tanks are specified based on the class of flammable and combustible liquid they contain. Suitable fire control devices, such as portable fire extinguishers, shall be available at locations where flammable or combustible liquids are stored.

Design, construction, and capacity of containers must meet approved OSHA and international fire codes. NMSU Transportation & Parking Services would like to thank the NMSU Fire Department for providing guidance on container storage.

NMSU makes it easy and affordable to park and commute around campus. Aggie Transit provides free shuttle routes that transport riders with a valid Aggie ID from free parking lots
